1. Maintain the operations of the greenhouses and growth chambers
a. Ensures the conditions are antiseptic and suitable for growing a research crop. This is done by cleaning and disinfecting pots, tools, greenhouse and growth chambers which contribute to hygienic conditions required for a research facility.
b. Operates and monitors computerized and manual systems which control the environment conditions for those spaces
2. Monitor the greenhouse and growth chamber environmental conditions
a. Monitors the growth patterns of research crops and checks for abnormalities and pest in accordance to research protocols. This involves monitoring the environmental conditions including pests, temperatures, humidity, disease and maintenance activities such as watering, applying fertilizer and spraying of pesticides.
3. Maintain adequate greenhouse supply inventory
a. Keep records of supplies associated with greenhouses and growth chambers activities and order new supplies when needed.

• Ability to perform dosage and dilution calculations for preparing pesticide solutions.

• Possession of a valid class 5 Manitoba driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
• Ability and willingness to work on rotating schedules for weekends.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a Forklift Operator’s License issued by a provincially certified agency within one year of appointment.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License issued by the Manitoba Agriculture within eighteen months of appointment.
• Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge on tasks to be performed.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime including evening, weekends and statutory holidays with sufficient notice.
• Ability and willingness to work in harsh environments (outdoors, cold, hot, dust, and noise).
• Ability and willingness to work with chemicals and pesticides.
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 25kg).
