Duties

The Surveyor General Branch (SGB) is the Government of Canada center of expertise for land surveying, geodesy and the international boundary between Canada and the United States.

The Surveyor General for Canada Lands provides the framework that identifies, documents, registers and protects boundaries and property rights for Canada Lands, which in turn provide boundary certainty that stakeholders can rely upon.

The Canadian Section of the International Boundary Commission (IBC) in cooperation with its United States counterpart, maintains the land boundary between Canada and the United States and regulates the construction of works within three meters of the boundary.

As a Senior Surveyor, you will provide professional surveying advice and technical expertise to a variety of government clients (federal and territorial) and you will assist other survey professionals and the public on all aspects of the Canada Lands Surveys System. You will prepare instructions for surveys, conduct field surveys and will prepare survey requirements for contracting of legal surveys. You will work as part of a team to resolve complex boundary and land tenure issues using your extensive surveying background and detailed historical research of survey related documents. You will review survey returns from other professionals to ensure compliance with survey standards and tenure documents.
