Duties

The work locations of a Visitor Services Attendant include Cedar Spring campground and/or outlying docks and campgrounds on Beausoleil Island. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member to work primarily in the Cedar Spring Visitor Centre who will: provide information and direction to day and overnight park visitors, check-in campers and boaters, handle cash and/or Point of Sales system. Visitor Services Attendants also perform routine cleaning of facilities (washrooms and pit privies, emptying garbage and recycling bins) and conduct facility rounds to ensure visitor compliance to park regulations. Positions may require the operation of a Parks Canada vessel to perform work duties. Must be proficient in English and in French and be able to comfortably offer services in both languages.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park is located in the heart of Ontario cottage country at the southern gateway to the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, the 30,000 islands. EDUCATION:

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in speaking, writing, and reading in French in a customer service environment or in a school setting.
• Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity.
• Experience in meeting public needs, resolving complaints, and finding solutions in a customer service atmosphere.
• Experience in handling cash and operating point of sales.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of visitor services, programs, and visitor services operations at Georgian Bay Islands National Park

ABILITIES:

ADDITIONAL ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possession of a Pleasure Craft Operating Card, MEDA3, and/or SVOP boating licence
• Experience boating and operating a powered vessel on Georgian Bay

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position will require the incumbent to:
• Stand for extended periods (50-75% of the day)
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions when moving between facilities and working outdoors
• Be exposed to stress when responding to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform and abide uniform policy
• Work shift work, and/or evenings, and/or weekends and/or statutory holidays and/or provincial/territorial holidays
• Willingness to obtain and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, Occupational Health and Safety Training, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System training and Quality Visitor Experience Training
• Willingness to obtain MEDA3 and SVOP vessel operating certifications
• Travel for work and/or training purposes

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid class G Driver’s Licence
