Information on employment equity

Please DO NOT send a cover letter. These screening questions replace the cover letter. We will NOT review cover letters.

The purpose of these screening questions is to help you submit an application that is clear, complete and persuasive and demonstrates that you have all of the required essential education and experience qualifications and some or all of the asset education and experience qualifications. Responses will not be considered satisfactory if you simply state that you have the required qualifications or provide a list of current or past responsibilities or paraphrase the qualifications.

We suggest you use the STAR(S) method when you are answering the questions to provide us with a complete answer:

• S (Situation): A brief description of the situation
• T (Task): Tasks that need to be done
• A (Actions): Actions that were done
• R (Results): Result of the situation
• S (Follow-up, when required): Describe any follow-ups that have been made

Your responses to the screening questions will be used as the primary source to determine if you meet the screening requirements. If you do not provide in detail how you meet the experience and education essential merit criteria, you may be screened out. The resume you have sent will be used only if the Assessment Board considers it needs to validate the information provided in this questionnaire.

Each question is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a simple question requiring a YES or NO answer. If your answer is "yes", the second part will ask to fully demonstrate how you obtained this qualification.

1. Appointment processes and statistics related to appointments and EE workforce representation (self-declaration)

ACTING:

Please note that when the appointment process is finalized, a Notice will be posted in the case of an Acting Appointment on the Public Service Resourcing System (PSRS). It is your responsibility to check for notifications on the PSRS site to avail yourself of the right to informal discussion with the manager and/or recourse to be submitted to the Public Service Labour Relations and Employment Board. Our intention is to communicate with candidates via email.

In the case of an acting appointment, the Public Service Employment Regulations enables the organization to exclude the appointee from respecting official language proficiency when the department is unable to fill the position with an appointment of a person who meets the language proficiency qualification. Therefore, we would encourage all to apply, in the event the organization is unable to fill the position with an appointment of a person who meets the language proficiency, others may be considered.

An assignment/secondment or acting appointment is a temporary resourcing option. Approval from your supervisor may or will be required before an offer can be made.

VOLUME MANAGEMENT:

Depending on the volume of applications received, second language evaluation results, any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may determine those to be given further consideration in the assessment process. Candidates may be contacted and assessed against these criteria at any time during the process.

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
