The Fire Management Officer implements an applied science fire management program and leads a dedicated team for fire operations, wildland fuel management, prescribed fire and wildfire suppression operations in support of the Field Unit’s and National fire management programs.

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Recent experience in collecting, manipulating, and analyzing spatial and non-spatial data;

EX4: Recent experience in leading and implementing a wildfire management operation and/or program.
*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years. Experience is defined as taking a lead or significant role in for a minimum of 2 years.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment.
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
• Willingness and capacity to travel regularly, including trips over 14 days and to travel abroad.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays.
• Able and willing to obtain certification in the operation of various all-terrain and marine (motorized and non-motorized) vehicles or vessels, as required.
• Reliability status
• Valid Class 5 drivers licence.
• St. John’s Ambulance First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate.
• Undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, including:
o Occupational Health assessment for firefighters,
o Moderate fitness status as outlined in the Parks Canada Fire Management Workplace
Fitness Capacity Test (i.e. Fitness Pack Test).
