Duties

Key activities of the position are:
- Inspects, maintains, repairs and overhauls potable water pumping and distribution systems.
- Installs, maintains, monitors and repairs fuel, sewage and water lines for sewage lift stations and
collection systems.
- Inspects, maintains and repairs above ground and underground petroleum fuel tanks, pumping
systems, filtering and distribution systems, oil water separators on waste oil tanks.
- Monitors, samples and tests storm and drainage water from Departmental land.
- Maintains, inspects and repairs atmospheric gas monitors.
- Conducts investigations of environmental incidents with the units/sections involved in accordance
with the applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulations.
- Oversees maintenance work being undertaken by outside contractors and/or other trades workers.

The intent of this process is to fill a current vacancy. Our immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position at Detachment Kingston.

EDUCATION
Completion of a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Must possess or obtain a valid Ontario Petroleum Equipment Mechanic 3 Licence or provincial or territorial equivalent within 1 year of employment.

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in water or wastewater or POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants) operation and maintenance.
EX2: Experience in the removal, repair and replacement of various pumps.
EX3: Experience in swimming pool chlorination procedures and practices.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
AOC1: Possession of additional certification in First aid or CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or Fall Arrest or WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) or other certification such as Spill response training.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AE1: Experience working in a multi-disciplinary workplace.
AE2: Experience using a computer and Microsoft Software (Word, Excel and Outlook).

OR1: Work may include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, and crouching, sitting, color determination, speaking and listening, and working in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.

OR2: A willingness to take training to further enhance knowledge in relation to chemical spill response.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

A current and acceptable driver’s abstract.

Possession of a valid, unrestricted class G driver's license issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent.

Eligibility and willingness to obtain a DND 404 military driver’s licence.

Must possess or obtain a valid Ontario Petroleum Equipment Mechanic 3 Licence or provincial or territorial equivalent within 1 year of employment.

Wear Personal Protective Equipment used in a construction or maintenance and hazardous environment.

To work in confined spaces, climb stairs, work from ladders, scaffolding and elevated platforms; to lift and carry heavy equipment in small, cramped locations.

To work overtime including weekends.
