Natural Resources Canada has recently developed a Carbon Management Strategy (https://natural-resources.canada.ca/climate-change/canadas-green-future/capturing-the-opportunity-carbon-management-strategy-for-canada/canadas-carbon-management-strategy/25337) that will set us on the path to meet our climate change goals of becoming net-zero by 2050. This will position Canada as a world-leading developer, producer, and end-user of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies.
The Industrial Decarbonization team is looking to add a graduate student to the National CCUS Assessment Framework (NCAF) team to assist in the advancement of CO2 capture technology TEA/LCA and national/provincial case study optimization (CO2 capture/removal, transport, and storage). The project is rapidly expanding as key stakeholders (e.g., governments, industry, academia, etc.) look for guidance on major CCUS infrastructure projects across Canada. The graduate student would help ensure significant advancements are made on novel machine learning-based LCA and optimization, along with its application to Canadian industry via case studies (e.g., Eastern Canada).
The student will benefit from expertise and facilities at the University of Ottawa (https://www2.uottawa.ca/en) and CanmetENERGY in Ottawa (https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/offices-labs/canmet/ottawa-research-centre/5753).

Prof. Arturo Macchi, University of Ottawa
