The work would focus on furthering our understanding of how the application of urease and nitrification inhibitors with synthetic fertilizers to agricultural land affects soil nutrient cycling, soil nitrous oxide emissions, the carbon balance and crop production. The candidate would be expected to work in the field to 1. Measure greenhouse gas emissions using flux tower methodologies, 2. Monitor soil nitrogen cycling through the collection and analysis of soil samples, 3. Monitor other important ancillary data such as weather and soil moisture content, and 3. Determine crop production by collection and analysis of plant samples. Management practices and technologies that may reduce GHG emissions from farms will be investigated. The candidate will be expected to write reports and present results to AAFC scientists.
Work will be done under the supervision of scientists at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa Research and Development Centre. The work will be focused on using eddy covariance and flux gradient techniques to measure CO2 and N2O emissions from agricultural crop production systems. The work will include on-farm field work. Progress updates will be expected.
