Rather, you must provide concrete examples with significant details to explain WHEN, WHERE and HOW you acquired each qualification. This is similar to what would be expected of you when asked to provide a concrete example of a particular situation in the context of an interview.

Work environment

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is a complex and highly operational 24/7 organization which provides clearance, control and examination services for travellers, importers and exporters, at close to 1,200 service points, including land border offices, international mail processing centres, airports, sufferance warehouses, and a number of other service locations. The CBSA is located in seven Regions and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 75% of its employees located outside the NCR.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff several positions at the CR-04 group and level. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this selection process and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Canada Border Services Agency.

EDUCATION:

The minimum standard is: Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience (see Note 1).

Notes:

1. The combination of education, training, and/or experience must always be included whenever this standard is required for staffing positions in the CR group.
2. Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the CR group must always be accepted as meeting the requirement for two years of secondary school.

Acquired Rights
1. Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CM, CR, DA, OE, and ST groups on June 30, 2023, who were appointed or deployed based on an acceptable score (45/75) on the Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation Test (GSPAT-120), are deemed to meet the minimum qualification standard above, by virtue of their education, training, and/or experience.

Note: If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards through a recognized credential assessment service.

- Experience providing administrative services such as but not limited to filing, meeting minutes,
reception work, mail duties, or etc.

- Experience providing client service.

- Experience using a computer and various software such as Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, or
Excel).

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Operational requirements may be required depending on the specific position being staffed, such as:

- Travel.
- Working off-site.
- Work overtime.
- Work various shifts on rotation, weekends as well as statutory holidays.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the holder to drive a motor vehicle in Canada.
- Operate a government vehicle.
- Lifting up to 23 kg.
- Handling dangerous goods.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and the Canadian -
Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) and pass the tests, OR challenge and pass both the CFSC and the CRFSC tests without taking either course

LEAVE/ABSENCES DURING THIS SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates are responsible to notify National Collectives of any pre-approved leave for the duration of the process to facilitate scheduling of evaluations.

One (1) alternate date will be provided for only one of the following reasons: 1) Medical reasons with doctor’s certificate; 2) Death in your immediate family; 3) Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans or training plans (made prior to the advertisement posting date); 4) Religious reasons; 5) Participation in a different appointment process; or other reason approved by the assessment committee

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
