A complete application must be submitted, consisting of a résumé and screening questions which clearly demonstrates how you meet the education and experience factors listed under the essential qualifications.

The screening questions will be used as the primary tool in the screening and the resume will be used to validate the information provided. Additionally, the ability to communicate in writing could be assessed using the screening questions. Applications must therefore respond in complete sentences.

Work environment

The department's facility at 90 Elgin Street is in the heart of downtown Ottawa. The building is equipped with state-of-the art technologies to support collaboration and innovation. The area is served by all major bus routes and a light rail station, and employees have access in the building to amenities such as a library and showers, change rooms and secure bicycle storage, allowing them to commute using the National Capital Region’s bike path system.

The Department of Finance Canada uses a hybrid work model. Our hybrid work model is consistent with the Common hybrid work model for the Federal Public Service which requires Departments to establish a minimum attendance requirement of at least 3 days each week onsite. Specific work arrangements should be discussed with the manager at the time of hire.

While candidates may be eligible for relocation expenses, Finance Canada may approve requests for full-time telework as well as work hours in the respective time zone of the telework location, between 7 am and 6 pm (e.g., 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST, meaning 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST).

Intent of the process

The immediate need of this selection process is to fill one indeterminate position with a bilingual imperative CCC/CCC linguistic profile.

A pool of qualified candidates (partially assessed) may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures and language profiles within the Public Service.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in translation or in a relevant field. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or professional experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

EXP1 - Experience in providing strategic advice to clients on writing, editing and language usage (French and English).

EXP2 - * Extensive experience in delivering translation and editing services to clients (e.g., a department or governmental agency).

EXP3 - Experience in using writing standards, including terminology, style and reference materials.

EXP4 - Experience in editing and translating a variety of documents, including those of importance and prominence for senior executives (e.g., ministers or equivalent level), such as speeches, news releases, and statements.

EXP5 - Experience working with internal and external clients, partners and stakeholders.

* Approximately 5 years of recent professional experience.
