Our selection process will consist of the following:

1. Reading Comprehension and Written Expression Second Language Evaluation: We invite you to
complete a second language evaluation. As this opportunity is only to staff bilingual positions,
candidates who receive results of B and higher will be invited for the next step.

2. Written exam: We will invite you to complete a written exam to assess some of the skills required
for this process.

3. Oral Second Language Evaluation: We invite you to complete an oral second language evaluation.
As this opportunity is only to staff bilingual positions, candidates who receive results of B and
higher will be invited for the next step.

4. Interview: We invite you to complete an interview.

Duties

Level 1 IT Service Desk:

• Acts as a single point of contact for phone calls, MS Teams calls and emails from internal users
regarding technology related issues and queries in both official languages (French and English).
• Assist with IT needs of new employees.
• Records all incident, service, and change and problem requests in ticketing system (Axios
Assyst)
• Takes ownership of user incidents, service requests and follows up the status of these incidents
on behalf of the user and communicates progress in a timely manner.
• Maintains a high degree of customer service in both official languages (French and English) for
all support queries and adheres to all service management principles.
• Monitors all IT Service Desk issues to ensure prompt resolution.
• Document system monitoring/reporting on hardware, software, phone system and network
resources to ensure a high level of availability, performance, security and integrity.
• Provides resolution of basic security related issues such as malware detection, password reset.
• Provides end-user technical support for PCs, peripherals, telecom devices.
• Participates in disaster recovery activities and special projects as required.
• Maintains and protects confidentiality with regard to all aspects of employee and business
information.

Work environment

Elections Canada offers a hybrid work model which permits telework based on operational requirements. At Elections Canada, employees are expected to work onsite at least two (2) days per week (or a minimum of 40% of their working schedule), which include one fixed day onsite. Work arrangements outside of this model may be considered on an exceptional basis.

The position(s) to be filled requires full-time on-site presence at an Elections Canada worksite. Telework is not permitted, except in exceptional circumstances.

Intent of the process

The immediate intention of this process is to staff a four (4) term positions in Infrastructure/Operations.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period, acting) and various bilingual imperative linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CCB/CCB, CBC/CBC or CCC/CCC).

EDUCATION

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Note:

1. Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.

2. Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.

3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Conditions of employment

Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.
