The Nurse Education Advisor provides advice, guidance and assistance to nurses working in various First Nation communities.
The Nurse Education Advisor will:
• Provide advisory/consultative services, professional support and guidance to First Nations nursing professionals
• Conduct monitoring activities (e.g. site visits), verify compliance with standards, assess/evaluate progress and prepare reports
• Participate in the identification of training needs for primary care health professionals; provide training activities
• Develop and deliver information sessions for best practice and knowledge
• Participate in orientating new hires to community based programs
By joining our team, you will build strong working relationships with First Nation communities, partners, and health professionals. The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care are paramount in these areas of practice.
The immediate need is to staff a part-time (0.5) term (contract) position, supporting and travelling to Fox Lake, Garden River, Chateh, and Jean D’or from Edmonton, Alberta, where our regional office is located.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at this group and level with various conditions of employment, tenures and in various locations within Alberta.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education, or some other specialty relevant to the position
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse in a province or territory of Canada
EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience as a Registered Nurse providing Primary Care nursing services in Primary, Urgent or Emergent care
*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of duties for a minimum period of 10 years
• Experience advising on and evaluating clinical nursing practice
• Experience facilitating the teaching/learning of clinical nursing practice
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Master’s degree in Nursing or a field related to health
• A certification in one or more of the following educational/training programs:
- Primary or Urgent/Emergent Care nursing
- Remote Nursing Practice
- Registered Nurse First Call Certified
• Knowledge of and experience providing nursing services in First Nation communities

•Willingness and ability to provide on call and overtime to maintain 24 hour service provision based on operational needs

iii) For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule
iv) For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Current BLS certification
• Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse and a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
• Willingness to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta or within a 40km radius
• Willingness to be assigned to a variety of communities as operationally required
