Please note that this staffing process is seeking candidates for Stream 1 (Junior Data Analyst) and Stream 2 (Junior Data Scientists). We want to highlight that it will be important to indicate for which Stream you wish to be considered in the application questionnaire.

Stream 1: Junior Data Analyst: This role involves collecting, validating, and visualizing data, applying advanced quantitative methods to uncover trends and insights, and collaborating closely with domain experts to drive data-informed decision-making.

Stream 2: Junior Data Scientist: This role leverages machine learning algorithms and advanced data manipulation techniques to analyze and interpret complex datasets, transforming them into actionable insights that drive informed decision-making.

EDUCATION
ALL STREAMS

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, obtained by June 30, 2025, with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Notes:
Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
ALL STREAMS

1) Experience in collecting, validating, categorizing, visualizing and analyzing data from various sources.
2) Experience in writing reports, summaries, presentations, or briefing material to present findings resulting from research or analysis.
3) Experience in using statistical or econometric models to analyze data, identify trends, patterns, and insights issues through internships, academic projects, or work experience.

STREAM 2
4) Experience in applying machine learning algorithms and data manipulation techniques.

Knowledge of quantitative methods used in data analysis, such as correlation analysis, regression analysis, data cleaning and preparation.

STREAM 2
Knowledge of basic machine learning algorithms for regression, classification, or clustering (e.g., linear regression, decision trees, ensemble techniques, or k-nearest neighbour).

1. Experience in using databases and executing database queries (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or NoSQL) to extract and manipulate data.
2. Experience in using tools for project management such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
3. Experience in using analytical or statistical tools and programming languages (such as R, Python, Stata, SAS, or SPSS).
4. Experience with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms for creating visual reports and dashboards to communicate insights effectively.
5. Experience in geospatial analysis.
6. Experience in geocoding and generating interactive maps.
7. Experience in conducting surveys.
8. Experience in developing, implementing, and testing artificial intelligence solution.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of major socio-economic trends and issues in Canada, as well as current government and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) priorities as they relate to those issues and trends.
