Technologists, Monitoring/Data Services, play a key role in the collection and dissemination of meteorological and climate data of the earth’s atmosphere.
The primary purpose of Monitoring/Data Services technologists is to perform upper observations for meteorologists and the scientific and aviation community.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Participating in the operation and maintenance of a variety of electrolytic hydrogen generators used by weather observers to produce hydrogen
• Testing, monitoring and operating the equipment and instruments used in weather observations and scientific monitoring programs
• Handling of hydrogen, helium and possibly other substances
• Assisting in data collection using SAP
• Writing scripts and programming
• Monitoring the upper air network through a service desk function;
o Performing quality control of network data
o Conducting remote troubleshooting of the automated and manned observing equipment over the phone with contract observers
o Participating in the practical training of contract upper air observers
The intent of this selection process is to staff two (2) indeterminate positions immediately.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff similar positions within Atmospheric Monitoring and Data Services at EG-04 group and level with various tenures such as indeterminate, term or acting and with various language requirements, security requirements, conditions of employment, operational requirements and various locations.

Note:
1. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or

Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a. Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b. Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EG classification.
EXPERIENCE:

- Meteorology, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science or other related field relevant to the position
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:
- Experience as a surface weather observer or aerological observer
- Experience in technical inspection
- Experience in technical training
- Experience in computer programming languages, such as Java, JavaScript,Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Python
