Duties

Heritage Presenters are storytellers!

Do you have a passion for nature, history, and culture? Join our interpretation team at Green Gables Heritage Place, Province House National Historic Site or Prince Edward Island National Park.

We are seeking passionate presenters who speak both French and English, who inspire visitors, provide orientation services, lead guided tours, love the outdoors, and serve to meet the needs of any who visit our sites.

You will help visitors connect with these places by:
• Having conversations that foster understanding and appreciation of nature, history and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples
• Making connections between the past and the present
• Delivering programming and guided tours for visitors that is informed, dynamic, and entertaining

Intent of the process

The results from this competition may be used to fill term positions at PEI National Park and Green Gables Heritage Place, Province House National Historic Site in 2025 and future operational seasons.

A list of qualified candidates will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (temporary, indeterminate, full-time, part-time) and work locations.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma (Gr12) or an acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in paid or volunteer work that requires direct contact and communication with the public
EX2: Experience in delivering information to groups with the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation

Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
Parks Canada, as required by the Official Languages Act, provides services to visitors in English and French. Qualified candidates must obtain successful second language evaluation results in reading, writing and speaking in their second language (English or French) prior to hiring.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in theatre/performing arts, heritage interpretation, museum education or story telling
AEX2: Experience working in Prince Edward Island National Park and/or National Historic Sites administered by Parks Canada, PEI

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE
AK1: Knowledge of techniques used when communicating and presenting to the public, such as storytelling, demonstrations, theatre programs or guided programs.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES
AA1: Ability to play an instrument that is solo and mobile (such as, but not necessarily limited to, the fiddle or guitar)
AA2: Ability to sing and/or dance
AA3: Ability to act and/or perform in character roles

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Work shift-work, weekends, and statutory holidays
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements
• Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation

Conditions of employment

• Reliability security clearance status
• Possession of a valid class 5 Driver’s Licence (PEI National Park only)
• Valid First Aid & CPR certification
