Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated MSc student to be part of a larger multidisciplinary forest genomics project. The broader aim of the project is to develop genomic selection for growth and adaptive traits to support the production of high quality, adapted seedlings in eastern Canadian black and red spruce. The student will acquire and analyze data obtained from wood increment cores and wood densitometry to establish links between growth and reaction of trees to climatic anomalies such as drought and frost. The student will further assess genetic control of these reactions and describe differences between genetic families and geographic origins in order to investigate the existence of adaptive patterns of climate resilience in red spruce. The student must be able to work efficiently in a multi-disciplinary environment and to exchange with research and end-user partners from different collaborating institutions.
