An assignment or an acting appointment is a temporary resourcing option. The approval

Reporting to a Manager in the National Fire Management Program, you will coordinate and implement key elements of the National Fire Management Program which could include fire management planning, wildfire preparedness and response, prevention and mitigation, prescribed fire, National Incident Management Teams, equipment and contracting, occupational health and safety, aviation management and/or training. You will provide support and expert advice on key elements of the National Fire Management Program to Field Units with fire-prone ecosystems. During the fire season, you will be rostered on a National Incident Management Team and periodically perform the role of National Duty Officer, on standby 7-days/week, 24-hours/day.
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

EXPERIENCES:

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
• Willingness to travel across the Parks Canada Agency for extended periods to attend wildland fire management meetings, participate in and deliver related training, and to assist with the management of wildland fire management incidents.
• Ability to safely work and travel under challenging conditions (e.g. various weather conditions, diverse terrain) for extended periods of time, and in isolated locations with limited amenities.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and sometimes highly stressful environment.
• Be willing and able , during the fire season, to be among the employees designated to play a national duty agent role on duty 7/7 - 24 hours a day.
Reliability Status security clearance
• Own and maintain a valid class 5 Driver's licence.
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic Occupational Health
Assessment for firefighters.
• Be able get and maintain a valid Standard First Aid certification (minimum);
• Ability to meet and maintain the Moderate Fitness standard as per the 'Work Capacity Fitness
Testing Standard for Parks Canada Wildland Fireline Personnel' This is measured by the ‘The
Field Pack Test’.
