Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff 2 determinate positions (12-24 month terms) located in Varennes, Quebec.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures , various language requirements and various security requirements for various locations.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience
⁕Stream 1 «Oriented on refrigeration and heat pump systems»
Recent* work experience in the following domains:
• Modelling/simulation of energy technologies or systems applied to buildings or industrial processes using programming languages such as MATLab or Python/R
• Processing and analyzing results generated from simulation of energy technologies or systems, or generated from experimental/testing of energy technologies or systems
• Modelling/simulation or experimental testing and data analysis of refrigeration/heat pump systems
• Writing technical reports

⁕Stream 2 «Oriented on buildings applications»
Recent* work experience in the following domains:
• Modelling/simulation of buildings (energy consumption and mechanical systems) using EnergyPlus, TRNSYS, eQUEST or IESVE
• Processing and analyzing results generated from simulations of energy conservation measures in buildings
• Writing technical reports to summarize results from building energy simulation studies

*Recent is defined as experience obtained within the last 5 years. Relevant projects conducted within graduate studies are considered as work experience.

Knowledge:
⁕ Stream 1
• Knowledge of the modelling and simulation process for equipment and energy systems such as heat pumps and heat exchangers.

⁕Stream 2
• Knowledge of the modelling and simulation process for buildings and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC)

Abilities and Skills:
• Ability to organize his/her work (autonomy)
• Ability to communicate effectively orally
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing
• Ability to work with others towards a common goal (team work)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Stream 1:
• Master’s degree in Applied Science (MASc) relevant to the duties of the position obtained from a recognized post-secondary institution

Stream 2:
• Master’s degree in Applied Science (MASc) relevant to the duties of the position obtained from a recognized post-secondary institution

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience in modelling/simulation of buildings (energy consumption and mechanical systems) using EnergyPlus, TRNSYS, eQUEST or IESVE
• Experience in test bench design, instrumentation or testing tasks (laboratory settings)
• Experience with CO2 based refrigeration/heat pump systems including modelling/simulation, or experimental testing
Stream 2:
• Experience in recommending energy conservation measures (ECMs) for buildings (i.e., conducting an energy audit)
• Experience in modelling/simulation of energy technologies or systems applied to buildings or industrial processes using programming languages such as MATLab or Python/R
• Experience in testing energy technologies in a controlled environment (laboratory setting)

Operational Requirements:
• Willing and able to travel within Canada (and abroad), including travel by car, rail and air
• Regarding telework, the engineer is required to work on site for the minimum number of days determined by Natural Resources Canada. In some periods, the engineer will be required to work 5 days a week on site to realize a set of experimental tests or prepare for field work in conducting energy audits or deploying energy systems
