Kouchibouguac National Park of Canada (New Brunswick)
SU-01 - Full-time opportunities. 37.5 or 40 hours a week depending on the position.
Employment dates range from June 2025 to early September 2025. You must be available to work throughout all the summer season to be selected for a student position.
Salary to be determined at the time of the hire and is based on the current academic level of the student. Please note that the Northern New Brunswick Field Unit uses its own pay grid.

Who can apply: Persons are eligible for student employment with Parks Canada provided they are:

- Registered as a full time or part-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited academic program; or
- Participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution, and;
- Meet the minimum age requirement to work in the province or territory where the job is located as well as to any specific age student program requirements. 16 years-old at the time of hire, this is the minimum age to work in New Brunswick;

Please note: Housing is not provided.
Students will be required to cover all travel expenses to and from the location of work.

Duties

- Supervise beaches and designated swimming areas;
- Exercise constant vigilance to ensure the safety of visitors;
- Administer first aid;
- Keep a daily record and maintain beach operations, prevention strategies and emergency equipment;
- Assist in prevention duties throughout the park.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

EDUCATION:

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience providing information and service to the public;
- Recent lifeguard experience/employment.

Information on language requirements

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

- Valid Canadian National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Certification (Waterfront);
- CPR "Basic Rescuer" or "C" level Certification;
- Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid or International Red Cross First Aid or International St John's Ambulance First Aid Certification.

Preference may be given to candidates who hold advanced first aid awards i.e. Aquatic Emergency Care, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Level "Health Care Provider", Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician, Pool Operator Certification.

* You will be required to provide copies of current certifications (NLS, First Aid, CPR-C) at time of interview.

KNOWLEDGE:

ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Willingness to wear identifying clothing (i.e. lifeguard uniform, protective equipment);
- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/ territorial holidays;
- Willingness to work in variable weather conditions;
- Possession of a valid Driver's license.
- Perform certain physical tasks as per the job requirements (e.g. lifting minimum of 20 lbs / 10 kgs).

- Reliability Status security clearance;
- Possession and maintenance of Occupational Certifications;
- Parks Canada prohibits smoking or vaping in the workplace.
