To the full scope of practice, provides nursing care and medical treatments in order to maintain and restore health, to prevent diseases and to provide palliative care; and documents clinical observations, care and treatments provided, patient responses and interactions with inmates in the health care files. Participates in the assessment, implementation, planning and evaluation of patient care; plans and organizes patient care priorities based on individual needs and scheduled activities; and adjusts patient care activities as required. Administers and monitors the effect of prescribed medications. Administers and controls prescribed substances within the RPN / LPN scope of practice and maintains the Narcotic Control Record. Maintains records of stock levels and expiry dates of non-controlled medications and medical supplies. Collaborates and communicates with other members of the health services team; exchanges information on health related issues and various diseases, with other health services staff, and with community Public Health Units to formulate recommendations on care and follow up. Prepares oral and written reports for institutional staff on observations made of patient behavior to assist in decision-making on discipline, inmate movement, inmate transfer, and the overall safety and good order of the institution. Supports the learning, development and socialization of colleagues, students in practical nursing, and unregistered health services providers through mentorship, preceptorship, or peer coaching, in accordance with organizational policies and practices and the requirements, professional standards, and practice guidelines of governing bodies.

EDUCATION:
• Minimum: Graduation with a diploma as a practical nurse from a recognized college of nursing.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
