We are looking to fill an Assistant Director position in Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut. This is the perfect position for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to lead employees on interesting files – all with the objective of making a difference for Inuit in Nunavut.

Please note, the position is located in Iqaluit so candidates applying from outside of Iqaluit must be willing to relocate to Iqaluit. Relocation assistance is available.

The salary range for these positions is: $112,834 to $129,017.

In addition, the selected candidate(s) will also be entitled to:
• A Northern isolated post allowance ranging from approximately $24,531 to $44,262 per year; and
• 2 Vacation travel assistance per year approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per dependent (i.e. the employee and eligible dependents, including spouse/common-law partner).

Duties

As Assistant Director, you'll lead a team of employees and manage, develop and implement projects in support of federal government’s obligations and responsibilities. Drawing on your knowledge and understanding of Inuit culture, social values and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles, you will be called upon to provide expert advice to partners contributing to the development of Inuit employment strategies. In this role, you would also work closely with federal departments and organizations, the Government of Nunavut, Inuit Organizations and Inuit clients to manage and develop collaborative initiatives and projects that would support the federal government’s Inuit Employment Plan.

Work environment

Located in Iqaluit, Pilimmaksaivik was created to support a ‘whole-of-government’ approach (one that works across several federal departments and agencies) to support the Government of Canada build toward achieving a representative public service in Nunavut, including its obligations under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.

Intent of the process

Please note: We have an immediate need to staff one (1) indeterminate position/permanent full time.

We plan to use this staffing process to develop a list of qualified candidates (also called a pool of candidates) for future job opportunities related to similar and equivalent types of positions at this level (AS-07). These job openings could be for permanent full-time work or for shorter periods of time, working on a temporary basis (for example, replacing someone on leave). We will also share the names of the qualified candidates on this list with other Federal departments / agencies in Nunavut so they can use it for their job openings.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities. Interchange Canada* may also be used as a staffing option.

Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.
