This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex. This location also features trails and walking paths as well as workplace wellness programs including running, fitness and mental health initiatives to boost employee morale and work/life balance.

This process will be used to staff positions in Bells Corners, Ottawa, Ontario.

The immediate need is to staff 1 indeterminate Stream A: Off-Diesel Research Engineer position.

Stream B: Biofuels Research Engineer will be anticipatory. Successful candidates will be considered for appointment as positions become vacant.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Common for all Streams:
Experience in carrying out technical projects which includes scope definition, specification definition, project scheduling, resource planning, providing conclusions and recommendations.
Experience working in an industrial or pilot plant environment.
Experience in designing, commissioning, or developing work and maintenance instructions for equipment.
Experience in designing, planning, coordinating, and conducting applied research and development in the field of bioenergy, biorefining, or emissions reductions.
Experience in technical report writing.
Experience in data analysis.

Additionally, for Stream A: Off-Diesel Research Engineer:
Experience using data analysis software to process large volumes of data, such as for the purpose of machine learning.

Masters Degree or Doctorate in science or engineering, or multiple bachelor or equivalent degrees in sciences related to the position.

Experience in programming in Python, R, Matlab, SQL, C, C++, or other object-oriented programming languages
Experience in database management

Additionally, for Stream A: Off-Diesel Research Engineer:
Experience in carrying out the technical review of renewable energy projects or proposals, or preparation of technical proposals related to renewable energy.
Experience in setting up, operating and troubleshooting of remote data collection, monitoring, and extraction system.
Experience working with Indigenous Communities.

Knowledge of the theories and principles of the practices in the field of bioenergy, biorefining, or clean energy.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of thermochemical conversion processes, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
Knowledge of the methods used to modify or develop bench or pilot scale engineering systems plants and their data acquisition systems.

Additionally for Stream B: Biofuels Research Engineer:
Knowledge of computational techniques for design, modeling, and analysis
