As part of an experienced food attributes team, the successful candidate will carry out experiments and activities associated with chemistry applications to enhance applications related to enhancing healthy food attributes.
These duties may include:
Preparing and maintaining records of experimental protocols, safe work and standard operating procedures and data files.
Collecting and analyzing research data along with comprehensive statistical analysis.
Contributing to the production of scientific reports, presentations and publications.
Ordering supplies and equipment and maintaining equipment (which may include lifting heavy items).
Participating in multidisciplinary research projects.

The immediate need is to staff three (3) positions in Guelph, Ontario. A pool of partially qualified and qualified candidates will be established to staff positions located in the AAFC locations mentioned above.

Experience in the evaluation techniques, including chemical, microbiological, biochemical and sensory testing methods.
Experience with techniques for the analysis of food or food products.
EG-05
Experience supervising and training others on analytical lab instrumentation (e.g.: Gas Chromatic Graph (GC), electronic microscopes, and High Performance Chromatography (HPLC).
Experience in the design and development of evaluation techniques, including chemical, microbiological and sensory testing methods.
Experience with designing methodology and techniques for the analysis of food or food products.
Experience with the use of specialized equipment which can be found in a food preparation laboratory.
Experience in drafting reports, technical bulletins and scientific posters.
Stream 2 - EG-04 only: Chemical Food Safety
Experience in using analytical lab instrumentation (e.g.: Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Performance Chromatography (HPLC).
Experience using the chemical analysis techniques of: extraction, concentration and quantification for evaluating minor food component and contaminants.
Experience in the use of statistical software.
Stream 3 - EG-04 only: LCMS Technical Support
Experience processing various food and biological samples for chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis.
Experience adapting and validating methods for the analysis of chemical substances.
Experience operating and maintaining mass spectrometry and chromatography equipment.
Stream 4 - EG-04 only: Multifunction
Experience in handling chemicals.
Experience in use of common encapsulation equipment such as spray dryer and microencapsulator.
Experience in use of microscopic technology for characterizing materials.
Experience in planning, organizing and conducting multi-step in vitro cell culture experiments on samples relevant to food safety and/or food attributes.
