Plans, adapts, develops and delivers interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of the park, historic site or marine conservation area with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about and enjoy the place and its natural and/or cultural resources and understand their significance to Canada.
L’Anse aux Meadows NHS is a 10th century Viking site and the only one known in North America. Located on the furthermost northern point on the island on Newfoundland L’Anse aux Meadows attracts about 38,000 visitors from both North America and internationally each season. The site is know for its guided tours of the archaeological ruins as well as its living history program which portrays life in a remote Viking base camp. The regions population of about 3500 is dispersed among numerous small communities with St. Anthony being the regional hub. The region offers medical and banking services, various restaurants, coffee shops and many opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast to explore and enjoy nature.

Education:
• A minimum of 2 years of postsecondary education or acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to the position.
• Preference may be given to candidates who have completed greater than 2 years of postsecondary education or training in a related field such as, but not limited to, history, museum science and theater or live interpretation.
• Note 1: Acceptable combination of education, training and experience:
A secondary school diploma or PSC approved alternatives; AND Successful completion of a minimum of three (3) courses relevant to the duties of the position (e.g. ; courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organization or employers including training provided by Aboriginal elders or group that may include but are not limited to course in heritage interpretation, communications, public speaking, performing arts) ; AND A minimum of twelve (12) months experience working in the fields of education, interpretation and /or outreach communications.
Experience:
• Experience in the development and/or delivery of interpretive programs to a wide range of audiences using a variety of presentation techniques;
• Experience in the delivery of cultural heritage programs.

Operational Requirements:
• This position is located in L’Anse aux Meadows and the successful candidate must work at that location;
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
• Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance;
• Possession of a valid Driver’s license OR personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid Driver’s license within the limits of the Treasury Board Policy;
• May require a pre-placement medical, as per the Isolated Post Policy. (In some remote locations);
• Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
