Imagine a world where you could work in social media and internet content management while also being expected to walk through forests, visit local farm stands and take drone shots of wild marsh restoration projects. You could make a difference, working with partners, stakeholders, communities and the public throughout the Greater Toronto Area. You could be a part of a creative and dynamic team committed to preserving nature, cultural heritage and farmland in one of the world’s largest urban parks.
Sound ideal? If so, then the role of Internet Content and New Media Officer (ICNMO) at Rouge National Urban Park could be a great fit for you. Parks Canada takes pride in creating a workplace culture that is healthy, supportive and fun, and we’re looking for people with a wide variety of experiences, interests and knowledge to join us.
In this role, you will engage the public through the design, coordination and maintenance of digital media, including website content, social media content and multimedia projects. Working in collaboration with other Parks Canada team members, you will collect and generate content, capture photos and videos and ensure proper translations are obtained and edited when needed.
Digital media is vital to Parks Canada as it supports understanding, connection and enjoyment of the Rouge’s natural, agricultural and cultural heritage. The ICNMO is a valued member of the External Relations team and is frequently called upon to assist with on-the-ground events and the communication and sharing of important messaging to the public. The ICNMO is also a savvy and mindful monitor of postings and direct messages that may impact, implicate or include Rouge National Urban Park. As well, the person in this role is expected to train and supervise volunteer and student photographers to build a visual story of the park.
Primarily, you will be Rouge National Urban Park’s digital eyes, ears and voice. You will help make the Rouge digitally accessible to everyone. Through digital content — including a website, social media accounts, a newsletter and an app — you will encourage the public to connect with Canada’s rich history, experience the outdoors, and learn more about our environment and heritage.
Overall, you will know Parks Canada’s natural and cultural offers. You will make things happen. You will skillfully manage issues as they arise. You will be a professional and engaging representative of the agency. You will help us to build and sustain a healthy, supportive and fun workplace culture. You will help make a difference in people’s lives by providing opportunities to connect with Canada’s natural, cultural and agricultural heritage.
