About the position

Duties
The student research project aims to evaluate the performance of ECCC’s chemical transport model (GEM-MACH) under the wintertime urban conditions observed during SWAPIT. The evaluation will include model-to-observation comparisons for multiple pollutants including, but not limited to, common air pollutants (e.g., NO2, O3, and PM), CO, VOCs, speciated PM, and size-distributed EC/OC, metals, and PAHs. The evaluation seeks not only to quantify model performance, but also to link model shortcomings to gaps in modelled emissions and/or atmospheric processing and to support the setting and design of research priorities. Depending on results of the evaluation, model experiments to query emissions and/or process scenarios may be carried out, and activities to advance urban-scale modelling from 2.5km to 250 m resolution may be conducted.
