About the position
DutiesWhat is your mandate as a farm worker? Provide a service to the various research teams by preparing, establishing, maintaining, and harvesting experimental plots in the fields.
Farm workers have the following responsibilities:
▪ Perform field and greenhouse activities (field/seedbed preparation, seeding, ploughing) for scientific purposes;
▪ Participate in the maintenance of experimental plots;
▪ Operate agricultural vehicles and equipment such as tractors, seeders, forage harvesters, mowers, string trimmers, and irrigation equipment;
▪ Assist with the maintenance of field equipment and vehicles;
▪ Clean and organize facilities, including workshops, pesticide or fertilizer mixing station, and laboratories;
▪ Maintain a detailed record of activities and supplies for research and maintenance purposes using both electronic and manual record-keeping methods.
Work environmentThe work is carried out at the Normandin Experimental Farm, an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) research site located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Recognized for its leading expertise in agri-environmental research and forage crops, the farm contributes to the development of sustainable agricultural practices and to the advancement of scientific knowledge adapted to cold and humid climatic conditions.
The farm encompasses 145 hectares of cultivated land, including approximately 20 hectares of experimental plots dedicated to conducting research projects under commercial-scale production conditions. These facilities support long-term studies on cropping systems, soil health, forage crops, and the environmental performance of agricultural practices.
The Normandin Experimental Farm employs 17 staff members distributed among four research teams, in addition to technical, administrative, and operational personnel who support scientific activities and the operation of the facilities. This work environment fosters collaboration among researchers, research professionals, technicians, and partners from the agricultural sector.
The farm offers a stimulating workplace that combines applied research, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration in support of Canada's agri-food sector.
Intent of the process
The intent is to fill a seasonal indeterminate GL-MAN-05 position at the Normandin Experimental Farm.
A qualified pool of candidates could also be established to meet future needs for indeterminate seasonal or term seasonal positions.
Presence at the Normandin Experimental Farm is required for the performance of the duties.

• Ability and willingness to obtain a valid Class 3 driver's license to drive truck, trailer or semi-trailer combinations.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a pesticide application certificate.
• Ability and willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Ability and willingness to work in harsh environments (outdoor, cold, heat, dust, noise, and farm manure).
• Ability and willingness to tolerate the presence of irritants such as dust, pollen and spores. Known allergies should be controlled with personal protective equipment or medication so as not to interfere with the performance of the duties of the position.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability and willingness to perform activities that require physical exertion, such as medium to high difficulty manual work that involves bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 20 kg).

Education:
AEDU. Successful completion of a program of study offered by a recognized educational institution in a field related to the position.

Experience:
AE1. Experience working in an agricultural research environment.

AE3. Experience using agricultural chemicals.
AE4. Experience in organizing and maintaining files up to date.
