About the position
Duties
The Canadian Wildlife Service is responsible for managing the Snow Goose, the Greater Snow Goose found along the Atlantic flyway, and the Lesser Snow Goose, found along the Mississippi, Central, and Pacific flyways. These populations were declared overabundant in Canada in 1998, which led to the implementation of special conservation measures to stop their growth. These regulations helped stabilize the Greater Snow Goose population over a period of about 20 years, but it has shown a significant decline over the past three years. Evidence suggests that there are increasing numbers of Lesser Snow Geese in the Greater Snow Goose migration route. It is important to understand the status of the situation to implement appropriate management. We are seeking a candidate capable of developing a capture-mark-recapture survival model and conducting survival analyses using data from banding data and telemetry data collected over the past two decades.
