Employment tenure
The projected start date is October 1, 2026 with an end date of March 31, 2027 (or depending on the candidate's availability or needs). It is expected that the student will work 15 to 20 hours per week with the possibility of part-time extension (subject to funding).
Salary
$25.17 to $38.38 per hour - Masters $25.17 to $31.69 and PhD $29.64 to $38.38. Varies as per the level of education and experience.

- Be recognized as having full-time student status at an accredited Canadian post-secondary academic institution (this includes students with a disability deemed to have full-time status). Individuals pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting applications are encouraged to apply, as proof of enrollment will only be required prior to the start date.
- Be enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of the curriculum.
- Be at least the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located.

About the position

Duties
1. Assisting with data analysis and processing of Earth Observation data for quantitative agricultural monitoring and modelling.
2. Developing innovative procedures for modeling and simulations in quantitative agricultural monitoring using a combination of various spatial data including Earth Observation data sets from multiple sources over study sites in Canada.
Work environment
The Agroclimate, Geomatics and Earth Observation and Agri-Environmental Resilience Centre (ACGEO-AER), operates across Canada, with staff located throughout the country. The Earth Observation team is primarily located in Ottawa at the Central Experimental Farm. Team members participate in project activities virtually on a collaborative basis therefore we encourage students across the country to apply.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a master's or doctorate program in a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in: remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Experience:
Experience working with geospatial data sets for agriculture or environmental applications.
Experience with processing remotely sensed imagery for agriculture or environmental applications.
Experience of automating geoprocessing tasks.
Experience in environmental modelling.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge:
Knowledge of methods of spatial data collection, processing, analysis, interpretation.
Knowledge of methods of advanced image processing of Earth Observation data applied to agriculture.
