Intent of the process
The intent of this selection process is to fill positions in the following locations:
▶ Newfoundland and Labrador:
Old Perlican, St. Anthony, Twillingate, Burgeo, Burin, Port aux Choix, Lark Harbour, St. John’s.
▶ Nova Scotia:
Port Bickerton, Clarks Harbour, Sambro, Louisbourg, Westport, Dartmouth, Havre Boucher, Yarmouth.
▶ New Brunswick:
Saint John, Shippagan, St. Andrews
▶ Prince Edward Island:
Summerside, Souris, Alberton
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Conditions of employment

▶ Security: Secret Security Clearance
▶ Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics - Canada.ca, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector- Canada.ca, Directive on Conflict of Interest- Canada.ca, and DAOD 7021-1, Conflict of Interest - Canada.ca.
▶ Maintain valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel
▶ Maintain valid Certificate of Competency
▶ Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time (including Arctic Waters) and in adverse weather conditions
▶ Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform and Personal Protective Equipment to Canadian Coast Guard standards
▶ Compliance with the Canadian Coast Guard Safety Management System and Standards
▶ Adherence to Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
▶ Willingness to be deployed within Atlantic Region
▶ Must be willing and able to perform Overtime work as required, often on short notice
▶ Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions) For Canadian Permanent Residents: valid Permanent Resident card.
▶ For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
▶ Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, or by sea
▶ The successful candidate must complete a mandatory training package within a deadline determined by senior management. Continued employment in a Commanding Officer role may be contingent upon successful completion of this training.

▶ OC1. Transport Canada Master Certificate, 150GT Domestic with Contiguous Waters Endorsement or higher.
▶ OC2. Valid Marine Emergency Duties Certificate
EXPERIENCE:
▶ EX1. Experience in a leadership position on a small vessel greater than 5GT (i.e fishing vessel, harbour pilot boat, a single screw, twin-screw – jet propulsion)

EXPERIENCE (ASSET):
▶ A1. Extensive small boat-handling experience, including docking, navigation, and operating in adverse weather conditions, with restricted visibility.
▶ A2. Experience in supporting operations and personnel in one or more of the following areas:
• Human Resources
• Pay and Administration
• Assigning and Delegating Tasks
• Performance Management
• Labour Relations
▶ A3. Experience in a Senior Officer role on a Canadian Coast Guard vessel involved in one or more of the following operations:
• Search and Rescue
• Conservation and Protection
• Science
• Buoy Operations
▶ A4. Experience on Fishing Vessels.
▶ A5. Experience in carrying out the requirements of the ship’s Safety Management System.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING (ASSET):
▶ A6. Successful completion of Simulated Electronic Navigation O (SEN 1A and 1B) training.
▶ A7. Successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard Small Vessel Command Course.
▶ A8. Successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Mobile Facility on scene command course (SAR-MF-OSC)
▶ A9. Successful completion of a Canadian Coast Guard Rigid Hull Inflatable Operator Training (RHIOT)
