About the position

Duties
The Post Garage Manager ensures all fleet operations comply with legislative, regulatory, policy, and safety requirements while overseeing the maintenance, repair, outfitting, and lifecycle management of specialized police vehicles and equipment. The role provides strategic leadership through the development and management of long-term business, financial, human resource, preventative maintenance, and emergency preparedness plans, while also offering expert advice on fleet investment, acquisition, modification, and disposal decisions. The position leads the delivery of fleet assets and services across the Division by managing facilities, equipment, inventory, quality assurance programs, and external service contracts. As the Division's senior technical fleet specialist, the role collaborates with national and divisional stakeholders to improve policies, standards, and operational practices, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective fleet operations, including support for remote and seasonally accessible communities.
Work environment
The work is performed in both office and garage environments, requiring oversight of vehicle outfitting, repairs, and maintenance activities. The position involves periodic standing, bending, and reaching, with regular exposure to noise, moving vehicles, temperature extremes, humidity, restricted spaces, and noxious odours. The role operates in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, tight deadlines, fluctuating workloads, and frequent interruptions from internal and external stakeholders. Success in the position requires strong organizational, communication, and self-management skills to balance operational demands and resources. The incumbent must also resolve complex issues with suppliers and contractors that can significantly impact schedules, budgets, and service delivery.
Intent of the process
