About the position
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one 2-year determinate position located in Hamilton, Ontario.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience:
1. Experience supporting preparations of detailed procedures, specifications and process guidelines for systems and facilities.
2. Experience coordinating the work of contractors and consultants related to equipment or building systems.
3. Experience applying engineering principles, Canadian safety codes, standard and regulations, and health and safety knowledge to research equipment and facilities.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Occupational Certification
Where occupational certification is required, eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Ontario, Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position (some positions may require eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada without regard for the field of specialization).
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of equipment design and maintenance principles including record keeping, coordinating with external service providers, scheduling.
2. Knowledge of planning, establishing and managing contracts.
3. Knowledge of building operations systems such as source capture exhaust systems and cooling loop systems.
Abilities:
1. Ability to work as part of a team.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and changes in priorities.
4. Ability to produce high quality written documents within short time frames.
5. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, in English

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
1. Project management experience as engineer responsible for purchasing, installing, commissioning, and either upgrading equipment or designing research
2. Experience procuring large equipment ($50-100k and over).
3. Experience with codes and standards related to quality control, inspections, or Quality Management Systems.
4. Experience managing information processes and databases; implementing document and version control.
5. Experience managing HVAC systems in an industrial or laboratory setting.
6. Experience with high-temperature off-gas/particulate matter exhaust systems and their environmental impact (permit applications).
7. Experience with metallurgical or metal processing facilities.
8. Experience representing owners in stakeholder meetings and negotiations with contractors.
9. Experience with Public Service and Procurement Canada process related to equipment purchases.
10. Experience with industrial applications.
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of the principles of metal melting, refining and processing equipment.
2. Knowledge of digital systems for equipment management and maintenance (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
