Duties
The employee shall be responsible for conducting advanced inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and mechanical equipment in support of CAF operations. The position applies technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to restore equipment to serviceable condition and ensure reliability. Duties include identifying faults, executing complex repairs, performing system tests, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with technical standards and safety regulations. The member maintains accurate documentation within maintenance systems, supports parts identification and requisition processes, and contributes to overall equipment tracking and readiness. The role may also involve providing guidance to junior personnel and supporting task coordination within the section to sustain maintenance output and operational effectiveness.

🏢 In line with Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) direction, the Department of National Defence has adopted a common hybrid work model where employees work at their designated worksite at least 4 days each week, or 80% of their regular schedule. Some positions may require full-time on-site presence.
4 CDSG Technical Services is responsible for providing first and second-line maintenance, repair, and technical support to units within the Garrison, ensuring equipment readiness in support of operations and Force Generation. Personnel work within a military maintenance environment that combines both civilian and military staff, operating in workshop and administrative settings. The environment is fast-paced and task-driven, requiring adherence to strict technical standards, safety procedures, and military regulations while managing multiple competing priorities. Work is conducted using specialized tools, equipment, and maintenance management systems, and requires coordination across trades and sections to deliver timely and effective support to the supported units.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill four (4) immediate GL-VHE-10 English Essential indeterminate positions in Petawawa with the possibility of 10+ more in the coming years.
There may be upcoming vacancies in London, Kingston and Toronto. These needs are anticipatory. Candidates who express interest for these locations will only be considered for future opportunities and be assessed as needs arise.
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

a. Special Purpose Vehicles (emergency vehicles, heavy snow clearing vehicles, zambonis, etc)
b. General Purpose Vehicles (commercial vehicles)
c. General Service Equipment (generators, small engine repairs, etc)
🔹AEX2. Trade certification or equivalent experience in automotive/heavy-duty mechanics pertaining to:
a. 310T Truck and Coach Technician license
b. 310S Automotive Service Technician licence
c. 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license
🔹AEX3. Strong knowledge of electric, and hydraulic systems.
🔹AEX4. Experience working on a variety of vehicles and equipment (commercial, or industrial).
🔹AEX5. Experience in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
