The selected candidate(s) will have access to training opportunities, including on-the-job training as well as on-site and/or off-site training. There are also opportunities for continuous learning and professional advancement.
⚓ What you’ll be doing as key activities:
• Provide electrical engineering services in the machinery department of a Canadian Coast Guard ship to support its mandate.
• Plan and carry out maintenance and repair of electrical components of main propulsion machinery, the generator set, auxiliary machinery, deck machinery, hotel services equipment, and other systems.
• Monitor the electrical or electronic controls of the main propulsion system during operations in confined, restricted, or shallow water areas.
• Assist in developing, modifying, and upgrading electrical or electronic equipment on board.
• Participate in inspections conducted by regulatory authorities.
• Participate in damage control, firefighting, environmental response, and other drills and operations.
• Provide technical advice to the chief engineer and other crew members regarding electrical issues.
• Compile and recommend specifications for the refurbishment of electronic systems, additions or modifications to the ship, and other contractual work required for the maintenance of the ship, and supervise the work of contractors and electricians.
• Make recommendations to the chief engineer regarding the electrical equipment needs of the engine room.
• Provide all necessary support to fulfill the mandate of the Canadian Coast Guard.

• Hold and maintain a valid passport, where required for the position.
• Hold and maintain a valid Health Canada medical certificate for seagoing personnel. (A valid Transport Canada Seafarer’s medical may be accepted on initial appointment for a period of up to a maximum of 6 months or until a Health Canada Medical is completed).
• Hold and maintain valid certificates of competency, where required for the position.
• Willingness to be assigned anywhere within the Central region.
• Be able to go to sea for extended periods and in varying weather conditions.
• Travel by land, air, or sea.
• Wear and maintain uniform, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment in accordance with organizational standards.
• Work overtime, as required.
• For vessels primarily assigned to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be within 30 minutes (response time) of the vessel during their work period.
• Comply with the organization’s Respiratory Protection Program and wear required respiratory protective equipment.
• Be subject, to a police records check and credit check conducted by the RCMP, where required for the position.

Operational Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License or mobility associated with a driver’s license.
• Accept additional responsibilities associated with the performance of duties applicable to this position.
• Must be willing to complete mandatory training related to employment during the rest period.
