About the position

Work environment
The work will be performed at the Federally-operated John N.A Janvier School located on the Cold Lake First Nation in North Eastern Alberta. The school currently has 10 federal and 22 First Nation employees. Cold Lake, Alberta has full services available for its residents and is approximately 279 Kms from ISC Edmonton offices.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is indeterminate. A pool of qualified candidates may be created as result of this process for indeterminate or full time term positions at John N.A. Janvier School, Cold Lake First Nation, Alberta.

Important messages
1) Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet the essential and asset education and experience factors listed by answering the screening questions. Candidates should write concrete examples demonstrating how they meet the experience and education required.
Provide concrete examples related to the experience:
•Choose examples that illustrate a high degree of complexity and difficulty and have sufficient impact to allow you to illustrate the extent and depth of your experience.
•Examples should include the date or period when the situation occurred, the context, your role and the outcome.
•If you have talked about an experience within a team, separate your role from that of others.
2) The screening board cannot make any assumptions about your experience and will not contact candidates for additional or potentially missing information.
3) Please DO NOT send a cover letter. The screening questions replace the cover letter. We will NOT review cover letters.
4) Resume may be used as a secondary source to validate the qualifications described; comments such as "refer to my attached resume" will not be accepted and may result in your application being rejected.
All communication throughout the entire staffing process, including email correspondence may be used in the assessment of qualifications.

We may assess the essential and asset qualifications using interviews, written tests, reference checks or a combination of these methods.

Conditions of employment

- Reliability Status security clearance.
- In possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Must be certified and in good standing status with Alberta Education, in possession of a valid Alberta teaching certificate with Permanent or Interim Professional Certification (PPC) at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience as a teacher or teacher candidate in an elementary school setting.
- Experience working in a child-centric environment with community involvement.

EDUCATION:
The minimum standard for positions classified as Elementary and Secondary Teaching (ED-EST) is either Education or Occupational Certification.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics or some other specialty relevant to the positions in the classification.
Note:
When education is required, candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of an acceptable teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada.

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working specifically in a First Nation School or Federal School.
- Experience in delivering land-based learning activities for elementary students.
- Experience in communicating in Denesųłįné in an immersion setting or as a second language.
