About the position

Duties
The Engineering and Scientific Support (EG) and the Electronics (EL) streams of the Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program (MA&S ODP) focus on the following business functions: Life Cycle Materiel Management (LCMM) and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS).
Life Cycle Materiel Managers manage materiel for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the day an item is delivered for service, through to its end-of-life and disposal. These tasks include but are not limited to: in-service support; technical subject matter expertise support; sustainment and maintenance planning, technical authority, supply management and much more!
Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) officers provide subject matter expertise to major materiel acquisition projects. They ensure that LCMM staff can maintain capital assets through their life cycle effectively. They have knowledge of the supply chain operations process, procurement requirements, engineering processes, quality assurance, operators and maintainers requirements and the LCMM function within the respective groups is key to the success of ILS practitioners.

ADM(Mat) is the country’s largest materiel management organization. It is a central service provider and functional authority for all the defence materiel and equipment programs. ADM(Mat) ranks as one of the largest business entities in the Government of Canada.

▶ Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program - (MA&S ODP)
The Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program is an elite, fast-paced, on-the-job, entry-level development program. The program consists of five (5) different career streams that a candidate may apply for. This application process is specific to our Engineering and Scientific Support (EG) program stream.
While in the EG stream, trainees will complete three (3) on-the-job training (OJT) phases. Each training phase spans twelve (12) months in duration for a total of three (3) years in duration.
Candidates who are selected to join the program will be hired at the EG-03 group and level. After the successful completion of each phase, trainees are promoted to the next classification group and level. Upon graduation, trainees are offered a predetermined placement at the EG-06 working-level within the Materiel Group.

Intent of the process
The immediate intent of this process is to fill 5 positions on a term or indeterminate basis for the upcoming cohort of the MA&S ODP.
❗Note: Individuals working in Canada on a work permit cannot be employed indeterminately within the Department of National Defence. Candidates must hold a valid work permit at the time of hire, with sufficient time remaining to support their participation in the program (normally one year).
This process will be used to fill current and future vacancies.
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

Note: All trainees must attain and maintain a Level II (Secret) security clearance prior to graduating from the Program. Failure to do so may result in removal from the program.
Candidates appointed from outside the federal public service will be on probation for the duration of the program.
Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.

Operational Requirements

• May be required to work occasional overtime.
• May be required to travel across Canada and internationally by any means of transportation.
• May be required to travel to military bases in Canada for extended tasks
• May be required to participate in military exercises and travel in military vehicles under adverse climatic conditions for the purpose of directing and coordinating equipment evaluations and tests.
Managers may establish other operational requirements specific to the position being staffed. These conditions will be communicated to the candidates considered for that specific appointment.

Education
Graduation from a three-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field of technology relevant to the position to be staffed;
OR
Graduation from a minimum two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in an aerospace-related technology relevant to the position to be staffed.
OR
An acceptable combination of education and/or training, combined with a minimum of five years of technical work experience in a field of technology relevant to the position to be staffed.
