About the position

Work environment
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment. We support Canada’s economic growth through the safe and efficient movement of maritime trade. We help to ensure our country’s sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometers of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) EG-06 position in Parry Sound, ON or Sarnia, ON within the Marine and Civil Infrastructure unit on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent or temporary basis within the Canadian Coast Guard within the Department of Defence.

Travel and overtime, including travel to remote locations by various modes of transportation (e.g. small and large aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, boats, helicopter, etc.).
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Willingness and ability to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of approved post-secondary education in an Engineering, Construction, Architectural Technician field or Property Management program or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in completing layout and staking services to guide the construction of civil infrastructure.
EX2: Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment related to the construction or repair of infrastructure. Candidate must have been responsible for at least 2 of the following:
• construction drawings,
• writing of technical specifications and scopes of work,
• cost estimates,
• project management,
• construction monitoring.
EX3: Experience in life-cycle management of civil infrastructure. This includes:
• development and evaluation of reports,
• providing operational, technical or maintenance advice to clients.
EX4: Experience using computer-aided design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Inventor, or SOLIDWORKS.

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of common practices pertaining to the management of civil infrastructure projects.
K2: Knowledge of common practices pertaining to the structural analysis of towers and foundations.
K3: Knowledge of common practices pertaining to the land surveys and site layouts.
ABILITIES
A1: Ability to recommend implementation options in support of infrastructure investment or rehabilitation initiatives.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
AOC1: Certification as an Engineering Technologist in Canada.
AOC2: Licensed to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
AOC3: Formal training or certification in Project Management
ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in structural inspection of civil infrastructure.
AEX2: Experience in the completion of land surveys, and the development of site plans.
AEX3: Experience testing materials such as wet concrete, cured concrete, wood, steel, or aluminum.
AEX4: Experience in the construction, rehabilitation, repair, or maintenance of harbour structures or off-shore piers.
