About the position
Duties
Duties:
Design and conduct laboratory and field experiments including sampling, RNA extraction, library preparation, and sequencing.
Analyze large transcriptomic datasets using bioinformatics pipelines on high-performance computing systems
Conduct field sampling in coastal forest environments
Write scientific reports and manuscripts; present results at lab meetings and conferences
Collaborate with NRCan researchers, university supervisors and BC Ministry of Forests stakeholders

You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
BSc with Honours in a relevant field (Biology, Forest Sciences, Bioinformatics, Environmental Science, or related discipline)
Admitted to Graduate Studies program at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

Research experience in forest pathology (e.g., Honours thesis, undergraduate research assistantship, or equivalent)
Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, library preparation)
Experience in bioinformatics tools and command-line computing (Unix/Linux, HPC clusters) and with R and/or Python for data analysis and visualization
Language requirements (essential for the job)

Familiarity with statistical methods for biological data (multivariate analysis, etc.)
Field or forest sampling experience is an asset
Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data analysis is an asset
Experience contributing to a peer-reviewed manuscript (as author or co-author) is a strong asset
