Conducts highway/road clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles (Wheel loader, grader, skid steer) and equipment requiring a Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement; operates/controls multiple blades and salting mechanisms; and performs a variety of highway/road maintenance tasks for the Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process
The Highway Operations Unit is gearing up for a busy winter season and is looking to hire a number of Class 1 & 3 Snow Plow Operators for positions that are up to 6 months in duration.

Conditions of employment
• Reliability status
• Maintenance of a valid Class 1 or 3 license with Air Brake endorsement
• Willing and able to lift up to 23 kg without the use of lifting aids
Operational Requirements
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Required to wear identifier clothing and required safety equipment.
• Required to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions.
• Required to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.
• Required to work shift work – during day – and nighttime hours, overtime, weekends, and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays, and call back or standby duty.
• Candidates will be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and/or periodic medical checks.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
For GL MDO 06 positions: Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
For GL MDO 07 positions: Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
Provision of a driver’s abstract, which is to show a minimum of five (5) year driving record that is free of at-fault traffic accidents, convictions, suspensions and revocations.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience driving heavy trucks.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of highway maintenance and traffic control procedures.
• Knowledge of safety measures and regulations common to highway maintenance
ABILITIES
• Ability to operate heavy trucks up to GVW 60,000 pounds.
• Ability to visually inspect equipment and perform pre and post trip inspections.
• Ability to assess and report on road, visibility, and weather conditions.
