Intent of the process
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures. The immediate need is to staff a position for a one year term with a possibility of extension.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Plant or Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Genetics, or other specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
At a later stage in the selection process, you will be required to provide documentation verifying your educational credentials.

Experience:
Experience in supporting biological experimental design and performing bioinformatic analysis of large data sets.
Experience working with Bash, Python, and R for genome assembly, annotation, structural variant detection, and comparative genomics analyses, using short and long-read sequencing data.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge:
Knowledge of various Genomics analyses
Knowledge of the scientific methods required to plan and conduct analyses in the field of bioinformatics.

Education:
Graduation with a Masters degree from a recognized post secondary institution in the field of science in specialization related to the duties of the positions such as but not limited to Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Plant or Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Genetics, or other specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience :
Experience working in Linux environments and high-performance computing clusters, including job scheduling and resource optimization.
Experience managing large genomic datasets and using conda/mamba environments or Singularity/Apptainer or Docker containers to ensure reproducibility and software stability.
Experience working in wet lab or in greenhouse setting with crop science or plant pathology
Knowledge:
Knowledge of version control systems such as Git and code repository platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.
Abilities:
Ability to design, implement, and maintain reproducible workflows using programs such as Nextflow or Snakemake for bioinformatic or genomic methods.
Supporting employment continuity by prioritizing AAFC employees impacted by workforce adjustment for job opportunities.

Preference
Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
