About the position

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time 5-year term positions in Ottawa, ON.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, language requirements/ profile(s), security requirements, conditions of employment and for various locations.

Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willing and able to work overtime as required.
• Willing and able to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, and air, with overnight stay.
• Willing and able to lead and participate in meetings in person and via telepresence.
• Willing and able to deliver presentations to the public and the media.
• Willing and able to participate in field operations in urban, rural and wilderness environments.
• Able to perform standby during off-hours and work on-call on a rotational basis as space weather duty forecaster.
• Valid driver’s license.

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

EXPERIENCE
• Experience processing and analyzing scientific data.
• Experience in programming and software development.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of a physical sciences field; particularly space physics.
• Knowledge of space weather hazards.
ABILITIES
• Ability to analyze scientific data.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally.
