About the position

Duties
1. Integrate hardware and software components to control greenhouse equipment in real time based on available climate and electricity price data under the guidance of a professional engineer.
2. Assemble, test and complete quality assurance of completed greenhouse lighting, heating and irrigation systems designed by the engineering team.
3. Developing data collection protocols for climate and energy data based on the research objectives set out by the engineering and physiology teams.
4. Ensure data quality and accuracy throughout the experiments through daily checks.
5. Contribute to written reports and presentation materials prepared by the project team by creating figures, graphs, and tables using the data collected.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one position on a 7-month term basis (with the possibility of extension). A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures.

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Graduation with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Horticulture, Engineering, or other program relevant to the duties of the position.
At a later stage in the selection process, you will be required to provide documentation verifying your educational credentials.

Experience:
Experience participating in engineering projects.
Experience in the development or scheduling of projects.
Experience participating in the establishment of statement of work, economic analysis, or technical requirements for greenhouse or engineering projects.
Experience in planning, project proposal development, coordination and execution of activities applied to greenhouse production systems, mechanical or electrical systems.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge of controlled environment engineering to reduce environmental impacts.

Experience working with hand tools and power tools.
Experience with the operation and maintenance of light meters, climate sensors and dataloggers.
Experience assisting with the preparation and review of technical reports.
Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with the public sector, industry, or academia.
Knowledge of crop growth registration, measurement of PPFD and greenhouse climate parameters.
Knowledge of greenhouse plant disease and pest issues managed through integrated pest management.
