Work environment
The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers, offering over 70 types of civilian career opportunities. Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill two (2) indeterminate (permanent) positions, in Borden, Ontario.
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary or indeterminate), operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.
Please note that all positions are on site, and individuals appointed will be required to work in person for the entirety of their scheduled hours.

The appointed candidate must meet all essential qualifications and conditions of employment and be administered the Oath before being appointed to the position. Administration of the Oath concerns individuals appointed from outside the public service.

Conditions of employment

🍁 COE1. Work in a confined environment (gas hut) with training gas to simulate a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) environment.
🍁 COE2. Wear a work shirt, work pants, and safety shoes provided by the employer during training periods.
🍁 COE3. Be clean-shaven when the use of a gas mask is required.
🍁 COE4. Strict adherence to the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) Policy on Violence in the Work Place (internal policy, available on the Defence internal network) and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 5014-0, Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention.

Operational Requirements

⭐ EDUCATION
The minimum standard is:
EDU1. A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).
Note:
🔹1. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
✅ A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
✅ An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a. Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b. Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the GT classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the GT classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.
