Intent of the process

Conditions of employment

Conditions of Employment:
Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
Reliability Status security clearance
Ability and willingness to travel on occasion.
Ability and willingness to do repetitive tasks.
Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
With appropriate safety precautions in place, must be able and willing to work in a laboratory for extended periods at a time, and able and willing to work with infectious agents and hazardous materials.
Ability and willingness to work in level II containment facility.
Ability and willingness to follow required training to work in level II containment facility.
Ability and willingness to maintain and handle heavy equipment (~20 kg).
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours when required.

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in microbiology, molecular biology, environmental science or a related field OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
At a later stage in the selection process, you will be required to provide documentation verifying your educational credentials.

Experience:
Experience planning and conducting laboratory or field experiments.
Experience contributing to experimental design related to microbiology.
Experience using scientific instruments and tools.
Experience with DNA manipulation, nucleic acid amplification techniques and protein expression and characterization.
Experience contributing to drafting reports, publications in peer-reviewed journals or posters.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge:
Knowledge of laboratory safety.
Knowledge of the principles of microbiological and molecular biology techniques.

Ability to collect and record data accurately, and interpret and analyze results.

Education:
M.Sc. Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in molecular biology, microbiology, environmental science, or a related field.

Experience in conducting experiments with bacterial pathogens in a Containment Level II microbiology laboratory.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
