In the application, you will be asked to identify the Department of National Defence location(s) from which you are interested and able to work, in person. This information will be used to fill positions where onsite presence is required to support operations, where office space is available, or to make staffing decisions that are aligned with the Common hybrid work model and Direction on Prescribed Presence in the Workplace.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to create a pool of candidates to fill one (1) vacancy in Ottawa, Ontario immediately on an indeterminate (permanent) basis, and additional anticipated vacancies in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ottawa, Ontario, and Esquimalt, British Colombia.
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), locations, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

Operational Requirements
Depending on the position(s) being staffed, some additional Operational requirements may be required as well as some of the operational requirements listed may be used as conditions of employment. If this is the case, we will communicate with qualified candidates to inform them of any additional Operational Requirements or Condition of Employments in order to determine interest for these opportunities and assess/confirm whether these additional requirements are met.

A post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in geomatics or an acceptable combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience.

Experience (Common to all positions)
▶ EX1: Experience applying remote sensing techniques, including the visual interpretation of features in satellite or aerial imagery.
▶ EX2: Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to create and edit geospatial data.
▶ EX3: Experience producing maps or other visual representations of geographic information.
▶ EX4: Experience using common geospatial datasets and products (e.g., topographic maps, orthophotos, digital elevation models) in a GIS or remote sensing context.

Asset Experience
(For Ottawa positions only)
▶ AE1. Experience producing vector data by manually digitizing points, lines, and polygons (i.e. vector feature extraction) to capture features visible in satellite or aerial imagery.
▶ AE2. Experience using Hexagon GeoMedia Professional software to create and edit geospatial data.
(For Halifax and Esquimalt positions only)
▶ AE3. Experience using Teledyne CARIS Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) to create and edit maritime data.
▶ AE4. Experience producing Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC), Submarine Electronic Navigational Charts (SMENC) or Additional Military Layers (AML).
