This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff 1 permanent vacancy in Kelowna. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future permanent or temporary vacancies (including terms, actings, casuals, assignments and secondments) in similar-level positions (at full or part-time hours, including shift-work).
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain an RCMP security clearance may involve, but is not limited to, a security/reliability interview, a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity, verification of credit/financial status, reference checks, education, employment history, online activities, alcohol and/or drug use, etc., and may require certain residency requirements.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.
Those selected for assessment should be prepared to provide the names and contact information of recent references (recent is defined as within the last: 3 years).
References must be available, have an in-depth knowledge of your work/projects, and must be able to answer specific questions pertaining to your experience, achievements and strengths. You must include a reference from your current supervisor.

Conditions of employment

Conditions of Employment:
• Enhanced reliability status with secret security clearance.
• Willingness and ability to occasionally work irregular hours, overtime, sometimes on short notice.
• Willingness and ability to travel.
• Willingness and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
• Possession of a valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Operational Requirements

Operational Requirements:
• A valid Class 5 BC’s driver’s licence.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and training purposes via various modes of transportation.
• Eligible and able to become certified as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector.

Education:
Graduation from a program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.

Experience:
E1. Experience coordinating an occupational health and safety program, including but not limited to the following elements: risk prevention, job hazard analyses, workplace accident/incident management, and development of policies, procedures, projects or directives.
E2. Experience providing advice and guidance regarding the interpretation and application of federal or provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Codes, Regulations, Standards and industry codes of practice.
E3. Experience in conducting investigations, inspections and providing training.
Note:
Experience as a member of an occupational health and safety committee alone is insufficient.

Occupational Certification:
Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector.
This includes, but is not limited to certification as a:
1. Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
2. Canadian Registered Safety Technologist by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
3. Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists
4. Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
5. Certified Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
6. Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of public Health Inspectors Board of Certification
Experience:
AE1. Experience working with or for a Federal Government Organization in a
Health and Safety capacity.
Knowledge:
