About the position

Duties
Operates and maintains medium, heavy and specialized vehicles and equipment including a Vacuum truck, as well as various manual and power tools; and performs ancillary labour services for the Parks Canada Agency.
Work environment
You will be working throughout the Lake Louise/Yoho/Kootenay Field Unit as part of an operational team responsible for servicing and maintaining sanitation infrastructure in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner. In this role, you will operate a vacuum truck to pump out toilets at various field locations, transport the collected waste, and return it to the wastewater treatment plant in Lake Louise for proper treatment and disposal. The work requires teamwork, attention to safety, and a commitment to maintaining clean, functional public facilities that support visitors and operations across the field unit.
Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill a term vacancies and may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the Driver/Operator – Road Maintenance III, GL MDO 07 group and level, in the same, or other, areas within the Parks Canada Agency with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Certification
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical check.

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Certification

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in the operation of commercial and heavy equipment, such as backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, flusher truck, salt trucks, and snowploughs
• Experience performing basic vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of health & safety practices, including safety measures and regulations common to heavy equipment operations
ABILITIES
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to identify equipment malfunctions, carry out minor maintenance and repairs, determine the cause and to effectively report them.
• Ability to perform general labour tasks as they relate to roads and grounds maintenance.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience operating Vacuum trucks for sludge removal, sump cleanouts, catch basin cleaning, sewer maintenance, and wastewater-related operations.
