About the position

Duties
Banff Upper Hot Springs is located in Banff National Park. As part of our fun and dynamic team, you will actively supervise outdoor pools, providing emergency care when necessary, and assist in the day-to-day cleaning and minor maintenance of the facilities. Ultimately our goal is to provide a safe aquatic environment and a Quality Visitor Experience for guests of the Park.
This is a fast paced, challenging and engaging work environment. If you enjoy working outdoors, and feel that your knowledge, skills and abilities would be a good fit we would like to hear about it.
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Intent of the process
This process will be used to staff positions for a variety of season lengths and tenures (temporary/indeterminate, full-time/part-time/as & when required). Interviews will be done on an on-going basis.
A list of qualified candidates will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (temporary/indeterminate, full-time/part-time/as & when required) in other work locations.

Your job application must clearly demonstrate that you meet all the pre-screening requirements in order to move on to the next step. Please explain how you meet the essential criteria of education and experience. Do not forget to specify the period during which you have held each function (month and year), and where you acquired the qualification. The answers to the pre-screening questions will be the main source of information that the assessment board members will be using to determine whether you have the essential qualifications for education and experience. Your resume must corroborate your answers to the pre-screening questions. The lack of information in the form requested may result in the rejection of your application.

Conditions of employment

Must be met prior to employment:
• Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance with fingerprints
• Possession and maintenance of Occupational Certifications.
• May be required to undergo and meet requirements for a pre-placement and/or periodic health evaluation.

Operational Requirements

Occupational Certification:
• A valid Canadian National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Certification
• CPR "Basic Rescuer" or "C" level
• Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid or International Red Cross First Aid or International St John's Ambulance First Aid or Basic First Aid or intermediate First Aid
• Oxygen Therapy Certification (must be obtained within 3 months of employment)
• International applicants must obtain a valid Canadian National Lifeguard (NL) Certification within the first 3 months of employment.
* Copies of current certification (awards) will be required at time of screening.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear identifier clothing and personal safety equipment;
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime and outdoors in various weather conditions;
• Willingness and ability to perform a variety of tasks (i.e. cashier, janitorial, pool and grounds maintenance, including snow removal);
• Willingness to perform under reasonable physical stresses (i.e. heavy lifting, pushing or pulling, working with cleaning chemicals, etc.)
• Ability and willingness to perform major first aid and water rescues, under
reasonable physical stresses to the standards set forth by the CRHS management team.

EDUCATION:
Completion of/or enrollment in secondary school.
NOTE: Proof of education will be required at time of screening.

• EX1: Relevant lifeguard experience/employment

• K1: Knowledge of emergency procedures and first aid.
• K2: Knowledge of standard pool facility operations.

• A2: To perform aquatic rescues and first aid procedures.
