Salary
$29.64 to $38.38 per hour - Paid in installments of $12,900 three times a year.

About the position

Duties
CanmetENERGY-Ottawa is an energy research lab within the federal Department of Natural Resources. The Subsurface Energy Technology Group conducts research into energy technologies including geothermal energy.
The duties of the position are to conduct technical and economic, and life-cycle analyses on enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) for the provision of electricity and heat for locations in northern Canada.
The work will include:
• Developing methods and models to evaluate EGS in the north and in various geological settings.
• Developing methods and models to evaluate the cost of EGS.
• Evaluating the life-cycle performance of EGS in the north.
• Writing reports and papers for publication, and developing and presenting presentations at meetings and conferences.
• Conducting lab work such as measuring rock properties (thermal, hydraulic, etc.).

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Education:
1. BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng in earth sciences or suitable engineering discipline.
2. Currently enrolled or willing to enrol in PhD in the Earth Sciences program at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS).

Experience:
1. Experience measuring and interpreting rock properties (e.g. thermal, petrophysical, radiogenic heat production, etc.).
2. Experience evaluating borehole thermal response tests.
3. Experience determining thermal gradients including accounting for paleoclimate effects.
4. Experience characterizing fractures (from borehole data and in the field) and hydrogeological properties of rocks.
5. Experience developing and using numerical models to evaluate geothermal resource potential (e.g. heat in place) and exploitation using EGS.
6. Experience preparing scientific reports and journal publications.
7. Experience preparing and presenting scientific presentations.
8. Experience presenting scientific material to non-expert audiences.
