The Arctic Ambassador’s Office is seeking a dynamic EC 05 Senior Analyst to join a small, dedicated team and help advance Canada’s Arctic diplomacy grounded in Northern realities. The Senior Analyst will report to Canada’s Arctic Ambassador, also based in Iqaluit (Nunavut).
The incumbent will support the Arctic Ambassador’s engagement, particularly with Indigenous partners, territorial and provincial governments, Arctic and Northern stakeholders, and international partners. This hands-on role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to Canada’s Arctic diplomacy, ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of Northerners help shape global conversations. Key responsibilities include coordinating outreach activities, developing strategic messaging, and ensuring timely and effective follow up on engagements.
The position also involves providing in depth analysis and reporting on key social, economic, and governance issues affecting the Arctic from an international perspective, to strengthen policy linkages between domestic priorities and foreign policy objectives. The incumbent may also support the Ambassador’s economic diplomacy efforts, and strengthening pan-Arctic collaboration.
This role is ideal for a motivated policy professional with strong analytical skills, a deep interest in Arctic, Indigenous and international issues, and who values meaningful engagement rooted in partnership. Travel within Canada, and occasionally abroad, is expected.
Work environment
►WORK LOCATION: Following the publication of the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) Direction on prescribed presence in the workplace, GAC will be following a hybrid work model* at Headquarters and regional offices in Canada. Some exceptions may be allowed in compliance with the directives in place.
* A hybrid work model is a blend of in-office and telework.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff 1 position on an indeterminate basis with an English Essential language profile. A pool of candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures and/or linguistic requirements within Global Affairs Canada.
Successful candidates may be eligible for staff housing and the reimbursement of relocation expenses.
In addition to the position salary, the selected candidate will also be entitled to Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance), ranging from $13,000 to $45,000/ year, which is based on if the employee has dependents or is occupying staff housing. EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, or statistics.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience planning and conducting consultative and stakeholder outreach activities.
• Experience working in Canada’s North, preferably in the Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut.

• Knowledge of the key governance structures and modern treaty implementation in Canada’s North.
• Knowledge of Canada’s foreign affairs, international trade, economic or defense policies or relations.
